Through the minute comparison of three famous and outstanding works of art, namely the statue of Dudu, probably from Lagaš, the helmet of Meskalamdug from the Royal Cemetery of Ur and the head of an Akkadian ruler found at Nineveh, a tentative characterisation of the aesthetics specific to each period has been undertaken. In accordance with the topic that was at the heart of the recent GIRI research workshops, the focus has been put on the treatment of details, which apparently became a main concern for the designers of the official Akkadian sculpture.
